I actually got an answer to a question I asked almost 2 years ago

In reference to this.

Apparently “illegal use of a minor” refers to the use of a minor in “nudity oriented material”… which, consequently, can also be charged (under the Ohio Revised Code) as Gross Sexual Imposition. On a tangent, which actually lead me to this discovery, there is a student who I believe I’ve met but have definitely seen who is a registered sex offender (that likes to touch little girls). The world gets smaller and stranger every day.

No laziness for me.

In the same fashion as my previous quarters this year, it seems I’m not going to be able to indulge any form of senioritis. Since it is my last quarter here… I actually find this mildly depressing.

This quarter I only have 3 courses: A software development course that is project based and has no tests (but a significant amount of work), a network security course which I seem to already know much of but will be a boon just because of the reading, and a classics course which is centered around a significant load of Greek literature.

Woe is you!

I’ve been unbelievably happy lately. Save an hour or two I was sour at my sister yesterday, there’s been nothing to bring me down. Thats actually not quite accurate… my mom and I dug into each other one night last week, but that ended up being something that it wasn’t on the surface and so I discount it entirely.

I’m pretty sure I’ve decided not to take a job for the summer. For everyone concerned, it just seems like the best idea. For me, other than the money issue, its great. I’ll have no responsibility for the first summer since I left high school (which I had a full time job that summer too). It also means I don’t really have to worry about where I’ll be for the summer so I can spend time with Theresa. Thinking about this from the other side, if I were to have a job, it would be a bad situation for the employer since at best I could work for a month and a half. Classes aren’t out until June 5th and commencement is June 8th. The best start date I could have would be the 9th and I could only work until July 28th(ish) since I’m driving to Dallas again this summer and as soon as I get back I’m going to start preparations to move to North Carolina. So… I just have to find something to do for the summer. I’ve already offer to help my mom with work she wants done on her house, my dad wants to remodel his kitchen, and Theresa’s parents need a lot of maintenance done so they can put their house up for sale. Best of all, I’ll get to be in the sun again this summer… yay!

Obviously I’m avoiding some depressive things here but it isn’t worth dwelling on because it will only make me and some around me sad. Worse, there isn’t anything I can do to change things without seriously impacting my future. On the plus side to this, my dad is finally getting some things looked at that he’s been putting off because… well… no one want to know they’re sick. Send him your thoughts and prayers, please.

Yay for new toys!

So… about 3 weeks ago I drove to my mom’s from Columbus. Theresa needed to take her GRE and I hadn’t been home in a while so I offered. About 45 minutes into the trip the car pulls to the right like I have a flat tire. Of course I pulled off immediately to change the tire… I got out and two of my tires were +3 psi. Confused, but having no explanation, I got back on the highway and kept going. Another half hour later it does the same thing only now the steering wheel is being jerked around like the only thing holding on to one of the tires is a ball joint. I stop, get out, same thing. I’m now close enough to home to just make a run for it so I did. When I got off the highway I noticed that when I took a left turn my car sounded something similar to bone in a blender. As fun as that was I went directly to NTB to get it looked at. They told me the strange driving and and wobbliness was because of a very loose tie-rod. On top of that, they told me the CV-halfshaft had to be replaced along with the bearings and tires. I had the tie-rod fixed under the understanding that if that actually broke I would die in a (likely) fiery ball of metal (leading to certain death)… I think I’m paraphrasing there but you get the idea. The drive back to Columbus went pretty well. The steering was a lot tighter and nothing funny happened. Well… over the next couple weeks the steering went funny again at least 4 times. Of course that couldn’t be the only problem… the check engine light came on. I had that checked and apparently cylinders 2,4 and 6 began to misfire… you can imagine my joy… and yet, I wasn’t fed up yet.

“Oh, the weather outside is frightful…”

“… But the fire is so delightful,
And since we’ve no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow.

“It doesn’t show signs of stopping,
And I brought some corn for popping;
The lights are turned way down low,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

“When we finally say good night,
How I’ll hate going out in the storm;
But if you really hold me tight,
All the way home I’ll be warm.

“The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we’re still good-bye-ing,
But as long as you love me so.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.”

Nothing like a good blizzard to put you in a good mood… so long as you aren’t out driving in it. Yesterday, while Theresa was driving home, she fishtailed up the highway, spun out and slid off into the median. My guess is traffic was moving too fast and she drifted into a patch of slush. Her car doesn’t weight much so the lack of traction and drag on one side just wreaked havoc on her steering. I drove up to Mt. Gilead to make sure she was ok. By the time we got a tow truck the roads were so bad I just had her follow me back to Columbus.

I had class to go to and I was supposed to go see the Martin’s but the snow kept falling. When I got home from Art, Lane Ave. was a solid sheet of compressed and mostly frozen slush and High wasn’t doing any better. From the highways on my little jaunt before, I figured it wasn’t worth the risk. Theresa and I stayed in and woke up to a level 2 snow emergency and everything covered in 8-12 inches of snow. Yippee. It was a very lovely day, minus the grading I had to do. We got to play in the snow for a bit.
