Since Theresa put her’s up…

I don’t believe in astrology at all. If it weren’t for the inherent beliefs rooted deep in my childhood, I might not even believe in fate, so I find it very odd that a personality profile derived from constellations in the sky could be so eerily accurate. I’m quite certain that the most of my friends will enjoy the, “They can also be blunt, impulsive, vain, aggressive and quick-tempered,” bit.

Sagittarius-Capricorn Cusp (December 19 to December 24)

Those born on the Sagittarius-Capricorn Cusp will help shape the future. They have an innate talent for sensing the way things should go and bringing them to fruition. They begin preparing themselves early for what life may bring. Their motto is “Always be prepared.” Not the most patient person on the block, they certainly appreciate those who agree with their plans. If they don’t find the cooperation they need, they will forge on ahead on their own with no problem.

Sagittarius-Capricorn understands the power in silence. They have the ability to utilize this to help their cause. Unless they exercise caution, they may find themselves alienating those they work or live with.

Sagittarius-Capricorn needs to temper their intensity. This will allow them to control their moods rather than letting their moods control them. They need to focus on building and maintaining social relationships. If they are not careful, they will close themselves off.

Sagittarius-Capricorn is practical and optimistic. They are outgoing, and can be very friendly. Responsible and reliable, they are good to have at your side in a pinch. They like things to work in traditional ways. They have a great sense of humor. They like one-on-one competitions. They are devoted to their partners, and great fun to be around. They like to explore new things, and want to experience as many things as they can. Hard working, they are not easily deterred from their goals.

The Cusp of Prophecy is known to be trustworthy, self-reliant, loyal, ambitious, charming, practical, economical, shrewd, fun, responsible, warm, funny, optimistic, romantic, playful, and enthusiastic. They can also be blunt, impulsive, vain, aggressive and quick-tempered.

Individuals born on the Sagittarius-Capricorn cusp are inspired teachers, and they are very fond of children. They make astute observations, and make excellent critics, being just and fair. While they don’t fall in love easily, once they do they are faithful to the end. They give their best and expect the best in return. Methodical and efficient, they complete every task to the best of their ability. They like to travel and have an affinity to language.

Sagittarius-Capricorn is a great thinker, and sometimes is gifted with prophecy to some degree. When these two signs work together in harmony, they have an unparalleled ability to create successful ideas and bring them to fruition. They have the determination to overcome whatever frustrations or obstacles as may arise along the way. If you really want to succeed, hitch your wagon to a Sagittarius/Capricorn Cusp to help you achieve your goal.

Edit: I think this is the site that Theresa found:

Sagittarius/Capricorn
December 19 to December 23

Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the Zodiac; Capricorn is the tenth. Sagittarius/Capricorns use knowledge to understand the world and hard work to master it. Those born on this cusp are both ambitious and disciplined, determined and dedicated to achieving their goals. They are also practical and realistic, cautious not to get in over their head. Sagittarius/Capricorns are the scholars and learners of the zodiac. They seek the truth and the meaning of life, and they love to explore. The astrological symbol of Sagittarius is the Archer. The Archer is a Centaur, half man and half horse, and it is the only sign of the zodiac that is half man and half beast. Centaurs were the great scholars and intellectuals of Greek and Roman myth, but they could also be hotheaded and aggressive.

The astrological symbol of Capricorn is the Sea Goat. They start from the sea and ascend to the highest mountain tops, working their way upward with every step. While the path is not always smooth, their determination to succeed ensures they will persevere. They can also be rigid and unforgiving when others stand in their way. Sagittarius/Capricorns are not fixed or opinionated, and they have no set plan or bias, but seek to learn new ideas as they come. This aspect is indicative of the mutable nature of the sun sign Sagittarius. These people often excel in the workplace and are business leaders, often starting businesses or coming up with new ideas. In this way, Capricorn exemplifies the cardinal quality assigned to it. Capricorns’ organizational ability combines with their diligence to help them achieve their goals. Sagittarius/Capricorns desire the freedom to do what they want when they want, and they tend to be impulsive and independent.

Sagittarius is ruled by the planet Jupiter. In ancient Roman mythology, Jupiter (and his Greek equivalent, Zeus) was the king of the gods. Jupiter represents expansion in all its forms, including the mental outreach so prominent in Sagittarians, but it also may invite excess. Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn. In ancient Roman mythology, Saturn (and his Greek equivalent, Cronus) was the father of many of the gods, including Zeus. Saturn is about discipline, hard work and responsibility. Sagittarius/Capricorns are interested in mental exploration as teachers and philosophers, and are loyal and charitable, self-controlled and self-reliant. They are also trustworthy and charming, adaptable to all situations.

The element associated with Sagittarius is Fire. The element associated with Capricorn is Earth. Fire/Earth Signs are physical and practical. While they are about action and leadership, they are not in a hurry. Their innate optimism and belief in straightforward dealings with others can sometimes make them careless or impulsive, but underneath they are economical, shrewd and rather conservative. Sagittarius/Capricorns love to have a good time, and they are outgoing and friendly. They are, however, also among the most responsible and traditional signs of the zodiac. They are generally polite and warm, because they understand that making enemies will not help them achieve in life.

Many Sagittarius/Capricorns are natural comedians, sometimes exaggerating their adventures to entertain others. Their innate self-confidence may make them argumentative or blunt, but their intention is to learn, not to offend. They are high-spirited and enthusiastic, often flirtatious, and they tend to enjoy social life immensely. In their leisure time, Sagittarius/Capricorns athleticism comes to the forefront. Personal challenge is always appreciated, and they tend to prefer competition with others. One-on-one competition also appeals to them, and they especially enjoy golf and martial arts. They tend to be lucky, and may enjoy gambling. Thanks to their philosophical side, they also enjoy drama, debate and most other mentally challenging pursuits.

In love relationships, Sagittarius/Capricorns are flirtatious, devoted and playful. The great strength of the Sagittarius/Capricorn-born is in their philosophical and exploratory nature. It is important to them that they live life to the fullest, experiencing everything they can. Their ambition is inexhaustible, and they are not easily deterred when their goals are in sight. Their hard work makes them one of the most successful characters of the Zodiac.

You know, I figure these have been around so long for a reason. Mine’s accurate too, wouldn’t you say? Who knows if it’s bologna? After all, the universe and the planets all have rhythms, and it’s not so far-fetched to say that people are influenced by their environment; astrology just takes a broader view of the environmental and elemental forces that are at play when you’re moving about in the universe.

For the record, I personally like the part about being a devoted partner…makes me smile, don’t ya know?

Is this serious? Of course it’s a broad view…astrology is as broad as you can be. It works off the shotgun approach, throwing out lots of different ideas and hoping one hits you.

Im not a Sagittarius, but I can tell you I’m impatient, passive-aggressive, competitive, shrewd, responsible, blunt, impulsive, vain, aggressive, quick-tempered, critical, disciplined, self-controlled, self-reliant, intense, practical, loyal, economical, faithful, methodical, efficient, determination, knowledgeable, polite, lucky, philosophical, devoted, optimistic, have a great sense of humor, trustworthy, ambitious, charming, fun, warm, funny, romantic, flirtatious, playful, enthusiastic, and high-spirited at different times in my life.

They catch you with this “omg that so describes me!” when in fact it describes everyone. If we’re going to believe ancient superstitions, then I hear Zeus is throwing a big party up on Olympus…see you there.

    Oh… wait… I see what you did there…

Of course I agree. Any time you go into a “psychic” off of X street they’ll be as vague as possible trying to illicit some response that they can interpret and latch on to. To a large degree, I think astrology is the same. However, the things listed in these are somewhat more specific than a list of generic attributes that can apply to anyone. For me, the “blunt, impulsive, vain, aggressive and quick-tempered” is especially true and the fact that it is highlighted in the description is interesting to me.

I for one will be at the party on Olympus. Hell with Las Vegas, the debauchery there should be way better!

And the point of astrology isn’t so much to swindle people as it is another attempt to explain unseen forces. The “broad view” to which I referred is not that you are as vague as possible in order to describe everyone and thereby make your prediction true, but that it doesn’t preclude the belief that there are forces we don’t fully understand but that behave in predictable ways. Science relies on what you can see and measure. A broader view, in this case, simply doesn’t require seeing the force but rather the effects of said force.

Not everyone has to believe it to be so, but just because it’s not strictly measure-and-weigh empirical doesn’t mean that it’s nothing but a con.

I guess what I’m trying to say is I don’t believe there is good reasoning to believe in any “unseen force” here. Gravity is a force you can’t see but is measured by its effects. Wind is another. Both of these lie in the realm of science just fine. They are reproducible and unbiased. We describe lots of natural things by their effects. But even if you find correlation here like Adam’s supposed stubbornness (who isn’t?), it does not necessarily imply causation.

Astrology is a business like anything else. They sell their “predictions” to newspapers because people like to read them with their comics. It’s entertainment. People pay for entertainment and that’s fine. It’s not a con like say a pyramid scheme, but it’s not real either. Ultimately you make the decisions on how to live your life.

Perhaps, but everyone makes the decision to draw meaning from different avenues. Some people believe strictly and solely in science, some people believe strictly and solely in the supernatural (like those people who think gravity is god holding everything down) and some people believe in a mix. All of those things influence how people live their lives and what kinds of decisions they make. Just because something isn’t factually supported doesn’t make it any less real to its proponents, nor does it negate the effects on the propenents’ lives.

As a side note, in my view there’s a distinct difference between people who sell astrology predictions to newspapers and people who use astrology and star charts to predict character traits. Just my opinion, but the former is an attempt to make money by selling generalised predictions, and the latter is within the realm of plausibility, insofar as you don’t base your life around it, but as a tool to perhaps understand your interactions with others better (by knowing your traits or theirs).

I don’t believe that just because a person doesn’t have an explanation for something, it allows them to make something up. It’s irresponsible. I don’t see the difference between the ones selling to newspapers and the ones selling books/websites/whatev.

You can choose to believe whatever you want, but that doesn’t make it real. Your actions are real though, and that’s why it matters.
